From May 24 to 31, 2025, Borderlands Sri Lanka had the privilege of hosting 41 students and 6 teachers from the American Community School, Lebanon, for a truly immersive week of leadership development, cultural discovery, community service, and outdoor adventure in Nepal. Divided into two vibrant groups—Koshi Group (21 students and 3 teachers) and Bhote Group (20 students and 3 teachers)—participants followed thoughtfully crafted itineraries across Bhaktapur, Kathmandu Valley, and the scenic region of Sindhupalchowk.

The journey began with a warm welcome at Bhaktapur Guest House, followed by a scenic hill hike to Subaneshwor Mahadev Temple in Katunje, offering students a first glimpse of Nepal’s natural beauty and tranquil landscapes. From that moment, the experience unfolded into a rich blend of learning, exploration, and bonding.

The Koshi Group kicked off their program with a full-day trek—starting with a drive to Sanga and hiking down to the charming heritage town of Panauti, where they explored cobbled streets and temples steeped in history. Their Culture Day on May 26 included witnessing the Machindra Nath Mini Chariot procession at Lagankhel and visits to the traditional villages of Khokana and Bungamati, ending the day at the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa. The group then traveled to the Borderlands Eco-Adventure Resort in Sindhupalchowk, where they spent the next few days immersed in team-building activities and leadership workshops. On May 28, they dedicated their energy to a meaningful service day in Ghati Village, connecting with local students and teachers of Shreekali Secondary School through a friendly football match and cultural dance performances by both schools—an unforgettable exchange of joy, laughter, and learning. The next day brought high-energy adventure as they braved the rapids of the Bhotekoshi River, concluding with their return to Bhaktapur.

Meanwhile, the Bhote Group began their journey at Borderlands, jumping straight into engaging team-building challenges in the lush riverside landscape. On May 26, they embarked on a thrilling walk across the bungy bridge before hiking to Ghati Village, where they participated in meaningful community service activities. The heartfelt welcome from students and staff at Shreekali Secondary School left a lasting impression. Football, music, and dance broke barriers, creating beautiful moments of shared culture and connection. On May 27, they took on the roaring Bhotekoshi River for their rafting adventure, returning to Bhaktapur in the evening. Their trekking day on May 28 featured a rewarding hike from Sanga to Panauti, offering both a physical challenge and a peaceful cultural experience, followed by a lively evening Talent Show at Bhaktapur Guest House, where students showcased their creativity through dance, singing, and even magic tricks. On May 29, their Culture Day featured visits to the ancient Changunarayan Temple and the spiritual serenity of Boudhanath Stupa, leaving them inspired by Nepal’s heritage.

One of the most unforgettable highlights came on the second last evening, when both groups reunited at the guest house for an electrifying live performance by Chandan and the Jantu Family. The music created a magical atmosphere under the stars, as students sang along, danced, and celebrated their shared experiences. The evening reached another level of excitement with a spectacular fire show by one of the band members—leaving the entire group cheering and mesmerized. It was a night of pure joy and connection that will be remembered for years to come.

The final day, May 30, was dedicated to relaxation and shopping in Thamel, Kathmandu’s colorful cultural hub. The week concluded with a warm and cheerful dinner at La Bella Café, filled with laughter, reflections, certificate presentations, and heartfelt goodbyes.

Throughout the week, students stepped outside their comfort zones, embraced new challenges, and grew as individuals and teammates. Leadership development sessions, nightly reflections, and debriefs helped foster confidence, empathy, and a broader sense of global citizenship. From rafting wild rivers to walking sacred paths, every moment contributed to a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. The week was more than a school trip—it was a powerful journey of growth, connection, and discovery. The Borderlands team extends heartfelt gratitude to the students and faculty of ACS Lebanon for their energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. We look forward to welcoming you again for more transformative adventures in the future.
